Questions contractors ask about KeptRing
Straight answers about what callers hear, Google LSA charges, setup, and canceling.
What do callers hear when KeptRing answers?
Your company name, then a plain disclosure: "This is the virtual assistant, and this call may be recorded." Then it asks what's going on and takes the details one question at a time. Call the demo line at (317) 558-7718 to hear it.
Does it tell callers it's an AI?
Yes, on every call, at the start. It never claims to be a person. If a caller asks, it says: "I'm an automated assistant. I can take the details and the team follows up."
Are calls recorded? Is that allowed?
Calls may be recorded so you can review them, and the greeting says so before any conversation. That up-front notice is designed to help with states that require every party's consent, but it isn't a guarantee of compliance. Recording and AI-disclosure laws vary by state, and you're responsible for following the rules where you operate and where your callers are (see section 5.4 of our Terms of Service). If you need extra disclosures, tell us during setup and we'll add them where we can.
Will KeptRing lower my Google Local Services charges?
No. Google decides what's a chargeable lead, and an answered call is judged under its normal answered-call rules. KeptRing doesn't lower what Google charges. What it does is answer the calls you're already paying for, so they can become booked jobs instead of voicemails.
If Google can charge me either way, why does answering matter?
Since Oct. 1, 2026, a missed business-hours call where the caller stays on the line more than 20 seconds can be a charged lead, and Google treats voicemail as a connected call. If you'll pay for the lead either way, the only question is whether someone takes the job. A caller who hits voicemail can just call the next contractor.
When does Google charge for a missed LSA call?
According to Google's Local Services help page, a missed call is a valid lead when it happens during your business hours (the hours in your Google Business Profile, and inside your ad schedule if you have one) and the caller stays on the line more than 20 seconds. With a press-a-key phone menu, the 20 seconds start after the first key press. See our article on the change for quotes and sources.
Can I dispute a missed-call charge?
Disputes go through Google, not KeptRing. Google says it reassesses charged leads over 30 days and automatically credits ones it finds low quality, duplicate, or invalid. Each lead's status (Charged, Not charged, In review, or Credited) is on the Leads page in Google Ads, and you can rate a lead with its feedback survey. Google says it may occasionally credit leads reported as poor quality, but credits aren't guaranteed. KeptRing's recordings and transcripts show what happened on calls it answered. We never log into your Google account.
Do I have to change my phone number or my Google settings?
No. You keep your business number and your Google LSA setup. You turn on call forwarding with your phone provider so missed, busy, or after-hours calls go to KeptRing, and you can turn it off anytime.
How long does setup take?
Your part is about 30 minutes: an intake call or email, then a test call to approve the script, then turning on call forwarding. We aim to have your receptionist ready for review within a few business days of intake, and nothing goes live until you approve it.
How does it handle emergencies like a gas leak?
Safety comes first. For a gas smell, hissing line, or CO alarm, it tells the caller to leave the house, not to flip switches or use flames, and to call 911 or the gas utility from outside. For sparking, burning smells, or injuries, it says to get to safety and call 911. It never gives repair instructions. Urgent calls are marked urgent in your summary. KeptRing is not an emergency service: it doesn't replace 911, the gas utility, or your own emergency line, and it doesn't dispatch anyone. See section 3 of our Terms of Service.
Does it book jobs on my calendar?
Not directly. It records the time window the caller prefers, and your team confirms. It won't promise an arrival time or quote a price, so it never commits you to something you can't do.
Does KeptRing text callers back?
Not yet. US carriers require business texting to be registered first (A2P 10DLC). Text alerts to you and text-back to callers will turn on after KeptRing's registration is approved. Until then, lead summaries go by email.
How much does it cost, and is there a contract?
$197 per month per business phone line, after a free 14-day pilot. There's no setup fee. No long-term contract; it's month-to-month under our Terms of Service. No card is needed for the pilot, and billing starts only after you agree to the monthly plan at signup.
How does billing work, and what if a charge looks wrong?
We email you at least 3 days before your first charge with the date, the amount, and a cancel link. Charges show on your statement as KEPTRING.COM. We don't refund partial months, but if something is wrong with a charge, email tom@keptring.com within 7 days and we'll review it and make it right, including refunding any duplicate or mistaken charge. Please contact us before disputing a charge with your bank.
How do I cancel?
Email tom@keptring.com or use the cancel link in any billing email. Future charges stop, and service runs through the end of the month you've already paid for. Turn off call forwarding with your phone provider and calls ring only your phone again.
Will KeptRing make calls to my customers?
No. KeptRing answers inbound calls only and never makes AI calls to anyone.
What happens to my customers' information?
We use it to answer your calls, send you leads, and run the service. We don't sell it, we don't use it to train AI models, and we never share mobile numbers with third parties for their marketing. Our voice AI provider's terms let it use de-identified, aggregated call data to improve its AI models. Call data is kept while your account is active and deleted within 90 days after it ends or after you ask, with limited exceptions. See the privacy policy for details.
Is KeptRing part of Google?
No. KeptRing is an independent business based in Indiana and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
Google rules quoted from Google Local Services Help, "How leads work", checked Oct. 15, 2026. Google can change its policies; its page is the authority.
Still have a question?
Call the demo line and ask it, or email tom@keptring.com.
The demo answers as Summit Heating & Plumbing, a fictional company. You'll hear that it's an automated assistant and that the call may be recorded.
